After a long battle with cancer, Michael passed away at Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Louise (née Demers), papa to Julie (Allan) and Jennifer (Michael) and doting grand-papa to Olivia and Noah. Eldest of the late Kathleen and John O’Brien, Michael is survived by his siblings, Margaret, John, James, Eileen, Noreen and Mary Pat. Michael lived a varied and interesting life that took him from Québec, QC, where he met the love of his life, to Windsor, Ont., and, ultimately, to his adopted hometown of Ottawa. A passionate man, Michael had diverse interests throughout his life, including cycling, cars, golf, reading, Timmie’s, British mysteries, the Sens and Labatt Blue. He loved nothing more, however, than his family. This love was and will always be reciprocated. Michael, broadcaster, media critic, entrepreneur, author, proud employee of the House of Commons, best, and forever beloved. On t’aime.
A celebration of life will be held when we can gather again. Donations to Bruyère Foundation in Michael’s name in lieu of flowers, are welcome.
