Michael Allan Scott
July 20, 1938 – November 7, 2021
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Allan Scott, on November 7, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his partner Linda Andersen, his three children, Michael (Liz), Chris (Lynn), and Karen (Andy), as well as his siblings Nicola Butler and Adrian Scott. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Miranda, Kaitlin (Chris), Danielle (Scott), Clayton, Trevor, Samantha and Nicholas and greatgrandchildren, Elijah and Olivia. He will also be missed by long-time friend Bev Simmons.
Michael was born on July 20, 1938 in Cheam, Surrey, England. As a child Michael immigrated to Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Canada with his parents Dr. George Allan Scott and Frances Olive Scott (nee Burrough) and his sister Nicola.
After graduating high school he attended Queen’s University, graduating with a medical degree in 1961. At Queen’s Michael met and married his classmate, Eileen Muir. They lived in Chatham where they both practiced medicine and had three children. After the marriage ended in 1971 Michael moved to Winnipeg to further his medical career. Michael fondly remembered his work with Indigenous Affairs in Winnipeg and Thompson Manitoba. At Lake of the Woods he developed a love for sailing which took him to the British Virgin Islands and many other destinations. He especially loved racing and participated in the “America 500” where he crossed the Atlantic and visited the Azores and Canary Islands.
Michael had many interests over the years including cooking, woodworking, marathon running, cycling, politics and travel. One of his most notable trips was to the Antarctic and Argentina. He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed conversation about his latest readings and ideas.
In 1999, Michael bought a home at Harrison Lake BC and decided to call BC home. Michael’s family fondly remembers holidays to Virgin Gorda, Tortola and Belize as well as happy memories of other visits with his grandchildren.
While in BC he met his partner, Linda Andersen. They both enjoyed life in the Fraser Valley. Michael became an avid cyclist and they attended the BC Sr. games and the Huntsman World Sr. games. In Sept 2018 Michael and Linda bought a lovely home in Kamloops and happily started a new chapter in their lives. Shortly after, Michael was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He fought courageously with Linda by his side. She was his dearest companion to the end. He died peacefully at Kamloops Hospice surrounded by love.
