Emma MacLeod (known as Maxine), born on October 28, 1928, the first child of Jim and Alice Danchuk, passed away on August 21, 2021, in Birchview Home, Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, at the age of 92.
Lovingly remembered by her six children she and Ken had: Gloria (Kerry) Sully, Joyce (Arnold) Cochrane, Margie (Vern) Holland, Norm MacLeod (Katherine Christiansen), Joan (Blair) Baer and Judy (Mark Campbell) MacLeod Campbell. She loved her grandchildren, enjoying a special relationship with each of them: Lynn, Raina, Joey, Fawn, Carter, Evan, Jenny, Richelle, Regan, Aaron and Alex. Plus, she had 15 great-grandchildren! She is also survived by her sisters Ethel, Lillian and Arlene. Maxine was predeceased by her husband Ken, her grandchildren Leigh and Noah, siblings Evelyn and Dave and her parents.
Maxine grew up in Crystal Springs, attended Normal School in Saskatoon and taught in Deer Creek near Paradise Hill. She and Ken farmed and were active in the community, Maxine especially in Ladies Aid/UCW, from which she received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, curling, bowling and travelling—in later years often on her own and sometimes with memorable adventures. After Ken died, Maxine lived on her own in Birch Hills, volunteering, befriending others and continuing to be curious and open to all that life offered. Since February 2018 Maxine lived in Birchview Home where she received exceptional love and care, for which the family is eternally grateful. Thank you to family and friends for your visits and messages on Maxine’s final journey home.
