We are sad to announce that Moe passed away peacefully at the Summit on Tuesday evening. The family is grateful that they were able to be at his bedside. Since the spring of 2019 he resided at Oak Bay Lodge before moving to the Summit. After enduring nearly eight years on dialysis, he chose to suspend treatment. Maurice was born in 1934 in Vonda, SK and the family relocated to Victoria, BC in 1939. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Emilia Vaesen and brothers Marcel and Camille. He is survived by and will be missed by his wife of 51 years, Jane (nee McKeachie) and sons Kent (grandson Kesler, Burnaby, BC), Mark and Craig. Also survived by his brother Ray (Donna) Vaesen, in-laws John (Sandi) McKeachie, Anne McKeachie, Cathy (Jeff) Sinclair, and Bob (Sue) McKeachie and numerous nieces and nephews.
After attending St Louis College, Maurice worked for decades in the transportation industry. Many will remember him at Bray’s, Heaney’s and Johnston Terminals/Allied Van Lines. In retirement, he enjoyed his cats, neighbourhood dogs and other wildlife. He also rekindled a love of building balsa wood model aircraft.
Words cannot express our gratitude and admiration for the loving care Moe received from Dr John Antonsen and the entire team at the Renal Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Oak Bay Lodge and the Summit at Quadra Village.
