Mary Hughes (Young)

Mary Hughes (Young) passed away peacefully on October 14, 2021 in Dartmouth after a full life of 91 years. Daughter of Joseph and Violet Young, she emigrated from England with her family to Port Arthur Ontario in 1967. Mary had a varied career as a Registered Nurse, retiring to Dartmouth where she lived for the last thirty years. She enjoyed volunteering with the Cancer Society, Dartmouth General Hospital, the Evergreen House, and the Christ Church Food Bank. She walked everywhere, loved the Alderney library, cryptic crosswords, and watching the harbour and ocean. Mary was predeceased by her brother John and sister Shirley, and will be greatly missed by her three sons, David (Claudia) Rothesay NB, John (Vicki) Dartmouth NS, and Tom (Gwen) Ottawa ON, seven grandchildren, Craig (Emilie), Kate (Raul), Ben (Brianne), Neil, Ryan, Olivia, and Genevieve (Eugenio), as well as nephews and nieces in the UK and St Lucia. Many thanks to the staff at Lewis Hall, Parklands At The Lakes, for ensuring she was comfortable and cared for. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
