Mary Elizabeth ‘B’ Jowsey (Honeyman) 1923-2021
Mary ‘B’ passed away peacefully April 20 at Nipissing Serenity Hospice in North Bay. Mary was born in Sherbrooke Quebec and grew up in Ottawa and Montreal with 4 younger brothers Stuart (Daina), Bill (Jane), Jim (Gloria) and John. In 1944 she graduated in Nursing from Sherbrooke Hospital and married S/L Milton Jowsey RCAF (deceased 2004) in Montreal. After the war and university years they lived in the INCO towns around Sudbury before retiring in Copper Cliff and Canmore Alberta. Inuit and First Nations art infused their homes early along with old Quebec pine. Mary joined the Sudbury Art Club in the early 1970’s and later enrolled in Fine Arts at Cambrian College as a multimedia artist, with a focus on Printmaking. She gave workshops in her home studio and won several awards during her many years of active participation in the N.O.A.A. in group and solo exhibitions. Mary enjoyed exploring different mediums of art expression and later with silk and French dyes in particular, a medium which she was painting on until shortly before her death. She will be lovingly remembered by her 5 children, Carol (Steve), Peter (Vikki), Christine, Kim (John), Ellen (Andrew), and her 11 grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Sara, Darren, Ryan, Kyle, Kirby, Megan, Marlaine, Stephanie and Brendan as well as her 17 great grandchildren. Warm thanks and much appreciation for Mary’s care and support at the Empire, the Serenity Hospice and by Dr Wendy Graham. There will be no service. We will celebrate our mum’s, gram’s, great gram’s life privately, whenever we can travel and be together. We remember our mum’s legacy of kindness and quietly supporting those in need throughout her life whether in our family packing up CARE packages in the 1950’s, supporting children in countries with Foster Plan, Grenfell Mission, Leprosy, MSF, Oxfam, Red Cross, Salvation Army, small local churches and community endeavours and more. If friends so wish, any contribution in her memory made to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice, 799 John St., North Bay ON P1B 8T2, or charity of your choice, would be kindly appreciated.

I am working on the biography of the father of Mary Elizabeth, captain Howard Roseberry Honeyman (1896-1967) for a book on soldiers of the Eastern Townships. And I have no picture of him.. Also the I would be interested to the biography of Milton Jowsey if the was of the E. T.
