MARY « EDITH » HANNIGAN
Mary « Edith » Hannigan of Yarmouth, NS, passed away at the age of 93, peacefully and with grace, on Friday, January 29th, 2021, with her loving family at her side.
She was the daughter of the late Edmund and Loretta (Blauvelt) Doucette.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Cotton Mill and the Grand Hotel. She married Leo Hannigan of New Waterford, NS, in 1946, and resided there for the next thirty years raising seven children. Following his death in 1973, she returned to her hometown of Yarmouth. Strong in her Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of St. Ambrose Parish, and was a member of the CWL for the past 44 years. Edith enjoyed her time as a member of Seniors Kicking Country Line Dancers and was a very talented seamstress. She also enjoyed doing a variety of crafts.
Quiet and gentle in her demeanor, Edith was truly stoic in regard to her declining health.
Edith was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her sons, Gerry (Deyna), Jim (Cindy), Kip (Darlene), daughters, Ann (Victor), Sharon (Josh), Lois (Harry), and Lorna (Brian), many nieces and nephews, especially nieces, Patti Doucette, and Diana Doucette, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren, as well as sister in laws, Alice Durdle, Edna Hannigan, and Norma Hannigan.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Nelson, Clayton, Bernard, Melbourne, Lorne, sisters, Irma, Victorine, son and daughter in infancy.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Cain for her dedicated care of their Mother, as well as, Yarmouth Argyle Support Services, Kentville VON Continuing Care, and Valley Regional Hospital doctors and nurses. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth.Funeral Service will be Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 10 am from the St. Ambrose Co Cathedral. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be limited seating, and public health protocols will be in place. There will be a live stream of the funeral service on St Ambrose Co Cathedral Facebook Page.
