In her 84th year Carole Quinn passed peacefully at home in Belleville, Ontario with loved ones by her side.
She is being grieved by her children Lesli (Quinn) & Scott (Cockburn), as well as Maggie Coleman (Trent) who was like a daughter to her. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Almika and will be missed by a number of nieces, nephews, « acquired kids », dear friends & a long list of loyal clients.
Carole grew up in Tweed, the eldest of 8 and is predeceased by her siblings Kathryn Fellows (Wim De Vries), Dianne Bernath (Steve), Sharon Butler (Greg), Jim Quinn (Maddy) & Rick Quinn (Sharon). She is survived by Paula Meier (Nick) & Maggie Hewitt (Gary). They were raised by Gerry & Myrtle with a strong Irish work ethic and Carole spent long hours working in the family restaurant businesses and was often tasked with minding her younger siblings. In time she followed in her mothers career footsteps and headed off to Peterborough (St Joseph’s class of 1960) for nursing training. Beginning in Thunder Bay she eventually moved her way back south to Belleville where she had a long & well respected position as head of long term care & geriatrics at Belleville General Hospital before « retiring » and focusing on holistic health care. She worked right up until her cancer diagnosis in mid 2021, helping countless people who she was eager to return to supporting. Carole had a gift for healing & the family continues to hear from her clients about how much she helped them.
Carole was passionate about health care, animals, travel & the environment. She was an avid traveller, always seeking adventure: she solo cycled the California coast from BC well down into the US, visited a Shaman in the jungles of Peru, toured Portugal with Lesli, enjoyed the Greek islands & cycled France with Scott, experienced Hawaii with Margie and in 2018 visited Ireland with her kids. Mexico, too, was a favourite destination over the years.
A long time sailor & cyclist she often raced with different crews out of the Belleville yacht club and put many, many miles on her bike, running the roads near and far.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Nicole Simpson who was by Carole’s side without fail during the final six months of her life offering invaluable friendship, support & assistance to Carole & the family.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to an animal charity – or really, any charity – of your choosing. A Celebration of Life will be planned for spring 2022.
