Mary Auld Skinner of Simcoe, Ontario
February 6, 1929 – August 20, 2021
SKINNER, Mary Auld Livingstone – Feb. 6, 1929 – Aug. 20, 2021, age 92. Beloved wife of the late Charles C. Skinner. Predeceased by her son Roderick, her parents Hugh and Elizabeth Livingstone, her siblings Hugh, Jean, Bill and Bette, and many more family members, friends and pets. Mary was born in Galt, Ontario to a Scottish family. With her husband Charles, she travelled to and lived in many places before retiring to Simcoe in 1975. They appreciated the small-town atmosphere of Simcoe and both became involved in the community. Mary attended St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church and was active in women’s groups there, knitting countless toques and mittens for St. Paul’s annual Mitten Tree. She owned and operated the gift shop Scandia Place in the old Simcoe mall. Mary also volunteered with Norfolk General Hospital and for some years was the gift shop manager. Mary was a fantastic cook and baker. Her shortbread, chicken pot pie, potato salad and pie crust were simply the best. CBC Radio was her constant companion, especially in later years, and she always knew what was going on in the world. From an early age, she instilled a love of reading in her children, and we’re so grateful for that. Some of Mary’s favourite authors were Louise Penny, P. D. James, Lillian Beckwith, Barbara Pym and, most of all, Agatha Christie. She will be deeply missed by her children Jane, Ian and Hugh, and her many nieces and nephews and friends. She will also be missed by her grandcats Bobby and Fergus and granddog Holden. At Mary’s request cremation will take place with a private graveside service at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Ferris Funeral Home, 214 Norfolk St. S., Simcoe (519-426-1314). If so desired, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation. Online Condolences may be made at www.ferrisfuneral.com
