Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mary at the age of 100 with her family by her side.
Mary is survived by sons Dennis (Darlene), Marvin (Teri), Larry (Vicki); and daughter-in-law Bonnie (Alvin). She is also survived by her brother Howard (Iris) Martin, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband Homer; son Alvin (Bonnie); brother Bill (Alice) Martin; and sisters Margaret (Alec) Barclay and Ida (Mark) Bond.
Mary was born in Taber, Alberta to Floyd and Edith Martin and moved to Gladstone Valley west of Pincher Creek as a child and resided in Pincher Creek most of her life.
She was a very hard-working farm wife and Homer and Mary raised “the boys’ on a mixed farm 14 miles east of Pincher Creek on Halifax Flats. Mary enjoyed working in town at Jackson Brothers Hardware for many years. She loved the drives to Waterton for picnics and ice cream. Mary also enjoyed dances, cruises, and international travel. She liked to golf and play cards and was an active member of the United Church and Rebekah and Eastern Star Lodges.
Mary’s calm, loving demeanor and her quiet leadership, integrity, and gentle happy nature made her the much-loved matriarch of our family, and family always came first.
A special thank you for the care and many kindnesses extended to Mary by Crestview Lodge while in Pincher Creek and AgeCare Seton while in Calgary.
There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
“The beauty of a life well lived never dies, it continues to embrace and inspire us.”
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Mary Alice Martin Simpson October 31 1921 November 20 2021 (age 100)..
