Obituary
Our beloved Mary ( Maria ) passed away December 26th,2021, four days after reaching her 103rd birthday.
Predeceased by her husband, Arthur Postnikoff and sisters Mabel, Helen, and Faye.
She is survived by sons; Robert (Lynda) and George (Judy); grandchildren, Elaine, Brenda, Megan and Kirsten; and great grandchildren, Brittany, Lexi, Morgan, Hailey and Tyler.
Born December 22, 1918 on a farm near Tiny, Saskatchewan, Mary ( nee Abetkoff ) was the youngest child in a family of four daughters. In her words she was » pampered , cared for, and looked after by my sisters and parents « . She often talked about those early years of no electricity, no running water, coal oil lamps, churning butter and being part of a close family and community.
At 25 years old , Mary was wed to Arthur and they moved to Inglis, Manitoba and in 1950 to Gilbert Plains. Mary and Arthur went on to have two fine sons and raise them with much kindness and love. After the boys left home, Mary and Arthur enjoyed traveling, mostly on bus tours to the U.S.A. and trips to visit family across western Canada. She always wanted to keep in contact with family, especially her sisters and nieces and nephews: Lisa, Jane, Evelyn and Ed.
Mary was an active member of her Pentacostal Church and belonged to ladies clubs. She had many friends from those affiliations. Known for her abilities in sewing, embroidery, quilting, canning and baking, Mary entered some of her creations in the local fair, often taking home ribbons for her excellent entries. She was an avid puzzle maker and gathered and recorded extensive family tree information, a wonderful legacy for her family. Every year, even into her nineties, Mary had a large garden and with her green thumb, grew plenty of produce for herself and to share. She was able to stay in her beloved house and home until the age of 98 with the help of wonderful neighbors, friends and family. The last 5 years she lived at the Burrows Apartments and continued her independence there with the kindness and support of the lovely ladies from Home Care and her good friend of many years, Sheila Brown and others from her community. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those caring folks.
Memorial to be planned for a later date.
