EMETERIO LEBASTY MARQUEZ
Emeterio, also known as Teri (Metring to family and close friends), was born in Atimonan, Quezon Province, Philippines. He was the third born of Igmedio Marquez and Juana Lebasty. He was predeceased by five other siblings and survived by a younger sister. He began his military service in his early twenties with the rank of a Corporal. He was assigned in the Signal unit at Camp Wilhelm now Camp Guillermo Nakar, Lucena City, Quezon where he handled critical military communications. He rose from the ranks and retired as an officer (Second Lieutenant) of the Philippine Constabulary, now the Philippine National Police. His love for country is evidenced by his unwavering and lengthy military service that spanned for over thirty years.
Metring married Belinda (Almacen) in January 1959. They have five children; Cheryl (Thomas), Leah (Kevin), Eleanor (Lope), Rico (Edith) and Joel (Dolores) and grandchildren; Abby (Jason), Gabriel (Thu), Hannah, Benjamin, Johannes Paolo (Trina), Linden, Claude Simon and Nigel; and great grandchild Ethan. Teri together with Belinda migrated to Canada on December 1998 and became Canadian citizens on Canada Day 2003.
While still in the Philippines during the later years in his life, he asked Jesus Christ to be his Saviour and Lord on several evangelistic outreaches. But it was here in Canada where he received his spiritual nurture. He followed the Lord in water baptism on Easter Sunday of 2003 at the First Filipino Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta.
Metring was a man of few words but showed a lot that will last throughout eternity. He was always forgiving and hardly complained even when in pain although we sensed his frustration when his health began to decline. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends (and loved to sing his favorite old songs during gatherings) and would always flash the sweetest smile. His profound love of life, family, sports as well as his kindness and compassion will forever be cherished and solemnly remembered.
Metring was able to spend his last week of life together with his family. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Metring managed his illness with strength and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Jesus called him home on Thursday evening July 29, 2021. He is now present and in the arms of our Lord. He looks forward to a reunion with the rest of us who share with him the hope of everlasting life that is in Christ Jesus.
We are in grief and sorrow on the separation from our beloved Teri though temporary. But this is our hope… “For we know that when this tent (body) we live in now is taken down – when we die and leave these bodies – we will have wonderful new bodies in heaven, homes that will be ours forevermore, made for us by God Himself and not by human hands… That is why we look forward eagerly to the day when we shall have heavenly bodies that we shall put on like new clothes”. 2 Corinthians 5:1
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Marquez Emeterio Lebasty 2021..
