Obituary of Marlene Joan Phillips
On January 15, 2021, Marlene Phillips passed away peacefully in her sleep from complications of Covid 19. She was 87 years old.
A lifelong resident of Jackson’s Point, Marlene was the mother of five children,
Jane (Mervyn), Jim, John (Barb), Robbie (Bobbi Jo) and Lee (Dave).
Despite her large family Marlene always made time (and food) for everyone, and her home was deemed the family’s hub. She always provided support and love to her family and friends, as well as a never ending supply of baked goods (she was famous for her butter tarts and pies). She always talked about the great neighbours she had, and was proud of her children and their accomplishments.
Marlene’s own accomplishments, beyond being a wonderful mother, were the years she spent working in River Glen Haven Nursing Home as a healthcare worker. She was proud to be honoured as a co-founder and volunteer of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program in Canada.
Marlene was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) of over 60 years, her parents Ray and Vera Clark, and her brother John. Marlene is survived by her children, 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life Marlene was always concerned about others before thinking about herself. Her favorite charities were The Salvation Army, St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, and St. James Anglican Parish of Georgina.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cedarvale who made her final months comfortable as well as the doctors and nurses at Southlake Regional Health Centre who cared for her.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, Marlene will have a private burial with immediate family only. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
