Vimini – Marion (nee Vincent) of Espanola (January 29, 1926 to December 21, 2021) passed away at the Espanola Regional Hospital at the age of 95.
Dear daughter of the late Fabian & Helen (nee Lemieux) Vincent. Beloved wife of Ovidio Vimini (predeceased March 2021). Loving mother of Carlo Vimini (Mary) of Milton and Marina David (Larry) of Constance Bay. Cherished Granny to grandchildren Lance, Lucas (predeceased), Carly, Johnny and Great Granny (GiGi) to great grandchildren Logan and Layla. Predeceased by brother Edgar and wife Nancy, brother Lolo and first wife Dorothy, brother Febbie and wife Shirley, brother Cyril, sister Jean and husband John, brother Rheal and wife Roberta. Dear sister in law of Sandro and wife Lillian of Italy, both predeceased, Bev Vincent, Romano Vimini (Elba) and Marcello Vimini of Espanola. Predeceased by her best friend and next-door neighbour, Marion Lemay.
Marney cherished her family and the many people she had the privilege of calling friends. She had a remarkable ability to make people laugh and everyone always felt better just having been in her presence.
Growing up with mostly brothers she gravitated towards the sportier side. Mom was an avid ball player, pitching for the Grey Devils, curler, and golfer, playing the Espanola course into her nineties. As a little girl she loved skating and playing hockey, but something was always missing. In 1935, Mom’s wish of having a sister was granted and she became big sister to Jean, a bond that was unbreakable; Jean and Marney were as close as two sisters could be.
Mom attended St. Joseph’s College boarding school in North Bay when she was 16. It was a pretty strict facility run by nuns but, not surprisingly, Mom and her chums managed to have some fun. She made many lifelong friends there and collected anecdotes she continued to regale her friends and family with for the rest of her life, generating much laughter.
After graduating in 1946, she was employed with KVP working as a stenographer for Mr. Best, Mr. Hunter and Mr. Avery. At this time, the Mill was still being used as a prisoner of war camp and Mom (living close by on Grey Street) could hear the Germans singing their Cantata at Christmas time. She always remarked how beautiful their voices sounded.
Around 1961 she left the mill and started work as a bookkeeper for the Espanola Garage, which her father Fabian had opened during the Great Depression and her brother Lolo now operated. In the 70’s, new management at the garage took over and she retired. She spent a couple of years doing payroll for the local golf course. Mom finally retired to spend time with her children and grandkids and was fortunate to have been able to spend time with her great grandchildren. The whole family benefited from spending time with Mom.
Retirement resulted in many trips with friends to golf and gamble small amounts at the casino. Wherever Marney went, she had fun, and so did her companions.
Bye for now…
Cremation has taken place. Due to concerns with COVID the family will be holding a Celebration of Life in the summer. Internment in the Espanola Cemetery at a later date.
After Dad passed away, the local VON staff were very good to Mom. If so desired, donations would be appreciated in Marions’ name to:
