Marion Louise Huskins Tuesday August 31st 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marion Louise (Howard) Huskins 90, at Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, on Aug. 31, 2021.
Born in Milford, Massachusetts, Marion was the youngest daughter of Edwin and Merna (Huskins) Howard. Mum moved with her family when only months old, back to Nova Scotia. Growing up in Hunts Point and North Port Mouton, her sisters Rose and Shirley were her constant companions.
Married in 1950, she and Leonce had almost 60 wonderful years together. Mum spent 30 years living on light stations with him, spending about seven years isolated on Spectacle Island with her husband and son before moving to Battery Point in Lunenburg where she often worked as a Relief Keeper. The family moved to Lunenburg in 1962 where a daughter was welcomed in 1963. When she was 54 and her daughter was ready to start school, Mum made the courageous decision to return to school to complete her education starting in Grade 10. Soon known to her classmates and most teachers as « Mum or Mama », she fit in amazingly and enjoyed her years at Centre Consolidated High. She was an excellent student graduating as Valedictorian, while managing to look after her children, baking, cooking, sewing homemade clothes and maintaining the household. She never missed a reunion and loved spending time with her school « kids ».
Mum enjoyed sewing, crosswords, reading, baking, church, travelling and camping. Her family was most important to her, especially staying close with her sisters. She was affectionately known as « Nokum » to her grandchildren and immediate family. We loved her homemade soup, seafood chowder, donuts, and buttermilk pie, she was a wonderful cook. She had many dart trophies and loved beating us at board and card games. She was involved with many organizations over the years including singing in the Central Port Mouton church choir, as a leader for Girl Guides and several C.B. Radio Clubs. She was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #23 Lunenburg, with over 70 years of service, including serving as President.
Marion is survived by son, Robin (June) Huskins, South Alton, and daughter, Rebecca Huskins, Lunenburg, grandson Matthew (Nicole) Huskins, Antigonish, granddaughter, Miranda (Chris) Huskins-Shupe, Falmouth and great-grandchildren, Dean, Simon, Max and Isabelle Huskins, Antigonish and Elliot Shupe, Falmouth. She is also survived by sister, Shirley Burgess of Hunts Point.
As well as her parents, Marion is predeceased by her husband Harvey « Leonce » Huskins and sister Dorothy Rosina « Rose » Jones.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. At request of the family there will be no visitation; memorial service by invitation only. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Legion Poppy Fund or your local Food Bank.
