JOHNSON, Marion (Betty) (nee Snelling)
The family of Betty Johnson announce her passing on Thursday May 13, 2021 in her 92nd year (two days before her birthday). Our mother was like the Energizer Bunny® – repeatedly bouncing back from many declining moments – and she always said that if she made it past the 13th she would have another month to live (as so many family members passed on the 13th) … but this time her body was not strong enough to make it past this one. Betty, the beloved wife to Frank (predeceased) for almost 66 years, is now reunited with him for their eternal enjoyment together. All of us; Tom and Diana with Jackie (Paul and their children Brandon, Lily, and Clara) and Tom Jr., Harold and Maria with Jeffrey (Allison) and Andrew (Sarah and their child Alexander), Les and Debbie with Alan and Jessica, and Ron and Liz with Amanda (Brent) and Cameron are proud and honoured to have Betty as our mother. Betty was predeceased by her parents Charles and Nellie Snelling and all of her siblings; Lillian, Charles (Doris), Grace (Ed Pearce), Lois, William (Josephine), and Doug (Beatrice). Additionally, Betty was predeceased by her in-laws Tom and Ivy Johnson; Leslie (Dorothy and Myrtle), Mary (Tom Connolly), Florence, and Harold. Mum was a matriarch of the Johnson Family – she was our cornerstone, heart and soul. She taught us four boys how to love, have patience, show compassion, practice fairness, use wisdom within our voice of reason, iron clothes , and enjoy life to the fullest. Plus she opened her arms, heart and soul to lovingly accept all of her daughters-in-law like they were her own daughters. At the cottage in Howdenvale, Mum always enjoyed playing games/cards with us boys, helping us with our puzzles, working on her walking paths, and planting/nurturing her gardens – we have so many great and fun memories with her there. Betty’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life – she loved every moment she had with all of them and equally everyone cherished and greatly appreciated her as our mother / grandma / great-grandma – the shining example of what a great person is. She will be fondly missed and will forever live in our hearts. Betty will also be greatly missed by her many nieces & nephews and will always fill a special part of their hearts. At any family event, Betty was the magnet for people to sit and talk with – she loved listening to how others’ lives are going and always gave great advice (if asked for of course). Betty had a full life with many friends between Hamilton, Howdenvale, and from along her long work journey in the China Department at the old Centre Mall (i.e., Morgans, Robinsons, and then finally The Bay). The last few years were not the easiest for Betty – she always had a great mind but unfortunately a very declining body – and we must thank the staffs from the Village of Wentworth Heights and The Emmanuel House for their great care and support of her while trying to make her life as best as possible. Rest in peace Mum – we all have loved you so much and will terribly miss you. Private family cremation and services will take place. Please sign the online Book of Condolences at www.baygardens.ca
