Obituary of Marilynn Reid Backman
It saddens us to announce that Marilynn Reid Backman from Georgetown Ontario passed away peacefully on October 9th, 2021. Beautiful as ever, her model side kept her strutting for 92 wonderful, adventurous years. Affectionately known as Marely, she was a social butterfly and would bring laughter and joy to those around her.
Marley, a lady of strength and talent lived a life full of achievements and adventures. To name a few, she represented her country water skiing, had a successful modeling career, had her pilot’s license and was store owner of Greens and Things in Caledon Ontario with her predeceased husband Fred Rogers. She traveled to New Zealand and Australia, just to name a couple destinations. In her eighties went parasailing in the Caribbean, and was a graceful dancer both on the floor and on the ice. One could never forget watching Marley perform her famous back swan manoeuvre while being towed backwards on a single water ski.
Marley is survived by her three children; Godfrey Smith, Clarke Smith (Diana) and Susan Vandenberg (John). Her Grandchildren; Justin, Megan, Ian, Colin, Kevin, Jennifer, Nathan and Emily. Her Great Grandchildren; Spencer, Lorelai and Rylee. Her sister-in-law Barb Hill, and her east coast cousin Pat Stewart.
Marley was predeceased by her parents; Clarke and Eileen Hill, husband Ralph Backman, brother Moffat Hill, and Cousin Victor Stewart.
Marley had a great life full of fun and adventures with friends and her cherished family. She will be truly missed by all.
A kind thank-you to the wonderful support and exceptional care from the nursing staff at Georgetown Hospital and Mountainview Residence.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marilynn Backman’s name to Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills, where she volunteered many years.
No service is planned, but a celebration of life will be held at a later time.
2021
