Marilyn Pontuck (“Sam”) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2021 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Marilyn was born on June 30, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, USA to Joseph Pontuck and Lena (Hechtmann) Pontuck. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and worked throughout her career as a computer programmer during the pioneering days, then as a computer systems architect, and later as a technical writer. A lifelong learner, Marilyn had a serious interest in archaeology, astrology, astronomy, Egyptology, and Kabbalah, to name a few. Her desire to know the answers to the big questions was unquenchable.
Marilyn is predeceased by both of her parents, and her sister Bernice (“Bunny”) Salkin. She is survived by children: Larry Tarof (Cathy), Kate Russell, and Joe Tarof; grandchildren: Daniel (Anne-Sophie), Rob, Jenny (Kyle), and Rachael (Mitch); great-grandchildren: Asher, Lydia, Samuel, Isaac, Kylian, Bearen, and Mickey; and family friends: Rachel, and Zvia.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa for their care and compassion throughout Marilyn’s last few months.
