Marilyn June Creighton

30 novembre 2021
The Creighton family sadly announces the passing of Marilyn June Creighton on November 30, 2021 in her 91st year.
Marilyn lived every day with joy and, even to the end, she appreciated the beauty of life. She was a grand lady; elegant, glamorous and, equally, authentic and warm. An icon of style, yet comfortable paddling her canoe or baiting a fishhook.
She was a patriotic Canadian whose favourite song was ‘Oh Canada’ and who loved everything royal. She even looked like the Queen, pearls at her neck, usually wearing a hat, with a spark in her eye.
The daughter of Jean and Arthur Chamberlain, Marilyn was raised in Toronto with her sisters Anne and Jane, and her brother, Robert (Bob). Marilyn graduated as a nurse at Wellesley Hospital, the Class of ’52, and practiced in downtown Toronto as a proud member of the Victorian Order of Nurses.
Marilyn and Doug were married in 1953 and began a journey of over 50 years of laughter, adventure, and travel until Doug’s death in 2004. At Doug’s side, Marilyn played an active role in building the Toronto Sun organization and fostering the close-knit Toronto Sun Family.
Her family was the centrepiece of Marilyn’s life. Her legendary Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations brought the family together. She was loved by her sons Scott, Bruce (Terry), Donald (Christine), grandchildren Sarah, Laura (Duncan), David, Alex, Sandy, James and Mark, and great-grandchildren Thomas and Jacqueline. She was pre-deceased by her cherished sister-in-law, Nancy and husband, Pat Grant.
Marilyn made an indelible mark on our city as a volunteer and supporter of the ballet, the opera, and the theatre, and as a member of the Board of the Wellesley Hospital Foundation and the McMichael Gallery. She was an avid gardener and a member of the Royal Horticultural Society. She and Doug loved to entertain in Hockley Valley and Long Boat Key. A determined golfer, she hit a hole-in-one at Lambton Golf Club three times – at least that’s the story. She is remembered by so many for her loyal friendship, her generosity, her flare and her great big heart.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Clement’s Anglican Church, 70 St. Clements Ave, on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Due to covid protocols, there are limits on the number of people able to attend, so please RSVP through the link below.
Following the service, a reception will be held at the Park Hyatt Hotel, 4 Avenue Road, Toronto, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Proof of vaccination is required. All are welcome to celebrate Marilyn’s life.
