It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Lena Quinn at her home surrounded by family. Lena was born in Hope River, Prince Edward Island on January 23, 1925. She is predeceased by her husband, James Joseph and her grandson Jaimie. Lena will be greatly missed by her eight children, Frank (Cherie), John (Donna), Garry (Melody), Marilyn, Paulette, Louise, Lee-Anne, Judy Atkins (Gord), 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She also leaves behind two dear sisters, Louise and Yvonne and two sisters-in-law Paulene and Shirley, all living in Prince Edward Island along with so many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She will also be missed by her close friends Bea and Mae. Lena’s immediate and extended family have always been so important to her. She kept informed of everyone’s highs and lows and always made you feel special, offering her love, support and prayers willingly and in abundance. Family and friends have always counted on her connection with St. Anthony whenever they lost something. Calls would come in from all over. Lena loved being a mom, nana, sister, aunt and a good neighbour and was grateful for her good health that allowed her to care for all those in need. She had many passions including baking, sewing, knitting, dancing, playing cards, travelling, always ready at the drop of a hat. However, one of her greatest passions was the Montreal Canadiens. Never missing a game and often sporting her hockey jersey. Mom was well known for many things but her memory was phenomenal. Everyone counted on it and you never questioned it. She has always been the keeper of stories from her childhood on the island, the war effort that took her to Pictou, Nova Scotia and to an ammunition plant in Montreal and then raising her family in Peterborough. Mom taught us through her own actions to be kind, generous and of service to those less fortunate. The world has lost a beautiful soul but we take solace knowing a little bit of her is in everyone she met. Special thanks to Dr. Maltman, Dr. McKenzie, Mark Fatum, Cathy at Life Labs, Nightingale Health Care, St. Elizabeth Health Care, Janet Nichols of Blossom Home Care Services and the exceptional palliative team at Hospice. Their kind and compassionate care allowed Lena to stay in her home until her passing, which was her wish.
Visitation at DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021. Please reserve your time by calling the funeral home at 705-745-4612 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. All guests are required to have proof of full vaccination, along with government issued photo ID and wear a face covering to attend the visitation. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a Private Family Funeral Mass at ST. ANNE’S CHURCH on Saturday, December 11, 2021. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
