À la mémoire de
(Margery) Joan McNabb
9 janvier 1927 –
11 avril 2021
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of (Margery) Joan McNabb (nee Mallett) with her family by her side, on April 11, 2021, in her 94th year. Pre-deceased by her husband Allan, Joan will be greatly missed by her children David (Kate), Andrew (Anne), Janice, Marcia (Nezam); her grandchildren Ryan (Alex), Lindsay (Martin), Laurel, Evan (Maggie), Rowan, and Duncan; her sister Nancy Mallett and brother Fred Mallett (Kathie); as well as her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be missed by her extended family and many friends.
Joan was born and raised in the west end of Toronto. With a degree in House Economics from Victoria College, U of T, she launched her successful career as a dietician, starting in Montreal at Royal Victoria Hospital and Eaton’s, and then at Bell Canada in Toronto until her retirement in 1991.
Resilience wasn’t a word that was used in the same way as it is now, but it is a word that would certainly apply to her: raising four children, working full time, preparing healthy, balanced, and always beautifully presented meals, maintaining a lovely and productive garden, and volunteering her spare time, Joan had a way of making things seem easy and calmly took whatever came along into stride.
Joan lived life to the fullest and experienced everything with a positive attitude and an open, intelligent mind. She lived her values of community, generosity and charity. Joan had dear friendships and a wide variety of interests and enjoyed mixing the two over bridge or out to the theatre. She travelled extensively as a young woman and during her retirement to many parts of the world, including the UK, Europe, Russia, Asia, Australia and Africa.
Joan was never happier than when she was around her family. She particularly treasured time with her grandchildren, demonstrating a keen interest in their individual lives and making sure they always knew they were loved.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kensington Hospice for their gentle care. A private Memorial Service will be held at Royal York United Church. Livestreaming information will follow. For those who wish, donations may be made in memory of Joan to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
