Obituary
Walter, Margaret Shirley (nee Townend)
August 6, 1934 – October 17, 2021
It is with deep sadness but a lifetime of precious memories, that we say good-bye to our beloved mother, Margaret Walter at the age of 87. Margaret was raised on the family farm in Wadena, SK with her mother and 7 siblings. They all worked hard to support each other. She moved to Saskatoon, where she met and married Elvin Walter. Mom worked hard to raise 5 daughters on the dairy farm. Elvin and Margaret moved into Saskatoon ten years ago where they enjoyed their life at the condo. Margaret was a dear and loyal friend to many and she made their lives richer and brighter. Mom was always the first one to call us on our birthdays. We will miss that. She loved to talk on the phone and kept us all informed. Margaret loved babies and we were all so fortunate and grateful that she would babysit and spend time with our children and grandchildren. She was generous with her time and volunteered at the church and condo and for Meals on Wheels for several years. You did not want to be her opponent at a game of Kaiser, she was ferocious. She also proved to be very lucky. Elvin and Margaret were fortunate to go on many bus tours throughout Canada and the U.S. Margaret will be cherished by her husband, Elvin; daughters, Brenda Perehudoff, Bonnie Kohlhase (Russell), Bev (Kevin) Fairburn, Bernie Walter, Judy (John) Rau and 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and her brother Bud (May) Townend. She will be fondly remembered by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and extended family. Margaret was predeceased by her parents William and Anne, brothers Ron, George, Larry, and Billy; and sisters Hazel and Deanna. Many thanks to the staff at the Hospice at Glengarda for the care and compassion provided to Margaret in her final days. A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will take place in the summer when her daughter Bonnie will come home to visit. Arrangements in care of David Polzen – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
