In Loving Memory Of Margaret Isobel Lumley (nee Lye). Margaret Lumley died peacefully on January 5, 2021 at Health Science North, Sudbury after a brief illness.
Margaret was the beloved wife of Rev. Robert Lumley (predeceased 2004). Loving mother of Sheila Lumley, Moira Lumley Chan (Luke Chan), Elaine Lumley (Sal P. Bertoli), Nadine Barmania (Ismail Barmania). Precious grandmother of Aidan (predeceased 2005), Elsbeth (Daniel), Ayesha, Adria, Khirron, Alexandra, Zachary. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. Her quiet, constant support and guidance were the framework of her family. She knew and understood each of her girls and adored each grandchild.
Margaret was born in 1924 to Arthur and Ethel Lye of Sunderland Road – a founding family in the Garson community. She was the last living sibling of this active faithful and loving family and was predeceased by James Lye (Elsie), Arthur Lye (Elizabeth), Edith Lee (Walter), Sarah Muir (Andy), Dorothy Bowers (Dennis), and Robert Lye (Jean). She was intensely devoted to her family. She took joy in her nieces and nephews, celebrating their accomplishments and good lives. She was a very proud member of this genuinely kind family.
Margaret’s life was lived in her unwavering faith in God. Her daily kindness and compassion were fed constantly by her devotion to her faith. After her marriage, Margaret joined Rev. Robert Lumley in his Ministry in the Anglican Church in Port Arthur, Muskoka – Lake of Bays, Sudbury (Lockerby, Minnow Lake, Coniston, French River). Following retirement, she was a member of the Church of the Epiphany and also attended the Church of the Ascension. She was an active member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW), a leader of the Girl Guides, church youth groups and Sunday School.
Margaret and Robert enjoyed the lively company of the Irish Club – Pat and Doug, Mel and Betty and all others. Margaret enjoyed the facilities of the Sudbury Yacht Club and the social fun of the Legion and other groups.
Margaret’s particular talent and interest with children led her to volunteer with children with disabilities. She also volunteered regularly with Extendicare, and canvassed for many charities.
Our lives are filled with quilts, tapestries, stained glass and other crafts which she lovingly created.
Margaret was blessed with beautiful lifelong friendship with Doreen, Vi, Vicky, Pat, Betty, Mary and a host of others. She greatly appreciated the kindness of her family, friends and neighbors in her later years – with the visits, telephone calls, picking up groceries, sharing home baking flowers and Hello magazines. With the support of her friends and family she lived in her home until the end.
We will miss her gentle guidance, her persistent kindness and faithful presence.
