Margaret Banner Saturday October 9th 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Mary Banner (nee Bean) announces her passing on October 9, 2017 at Milton District Hospital with her family members present. Dearly loved wife of Raymond for 42 years. Mother of Valerie, Geoff, Roger (Tam) and Barbara (Alan) and grandchildren Gord, Sherri and Wanessa. Margaret is predeceased by her husband Raymond. Born in Leeds England on June 12, 1925, Margaret and her younger brother John Geoffrey were the children of Dr. William Harold Bean and his wife Amy Dorothea (nee Jessop).
In her school years Margaret attended Leeds Girls High School from 1938 to 42.
From 1943 to 45 Margaret was a volunteer in the Women’s Land Army (WLA) which made a significant contribution to boosting Britain’s food production during the Second World War by doing farming work in place of the men that had gone to war. Margaret went on to train as a nurse at Harrogate District Hospital and spent 9 years training and working as a nurse. It was in Harrogate that Margaret met her future husband, Raymond, a RAF veteran of the Second World War.
Margaret emigrated to Canada in 1955 to join Raymond who had emigrated in 1954. They were married in Milton in 1955 at Grace Anglican Church. Margaret’s nursing career continued in Milton first at Dr. Stevenson’s clinic on Mill St. followed by the Milton Hospital until 1995 and continued to do volunteer work at the hospital after retirement. In retirement Margaret looked after her husband who suffered a debilitating stroke until he passed in 1996. Margaret travelled extensively in her retirement, venturing to places like the USSR, Belize, Thailand, England, France, Austria, Dominican Republic and Greece. Margaret’s spirit ascended to heaven in the Milton Hospital where she had served for over 35 years. Mom, you can rest now after your full and productive life.
