With sadness in our hearts, but thankful she is relieved from her suffering, we announce our Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great-Great Grandma is now with her Lord and Saviour. Mom passed away on Friday August 20, 2021 at the home of Mark and Bonnie Fowler in the R.M. of Mooserange No. 486, SK at the age of 87, peacefully, surrounded by love.
Mom had many gifts that were strongly supported by her deep faith and love of God. She had strong leadership and organizational skills which served her well in all of her activities. She was an active member of the Weldon Pentecostal Church who benefited from her gift of music leading the choir and organizing concerts that were enjoyed by all.
Some of Mom’s other gifts were that she was a talented seamstress. Many people in Weldon and area were recipients of her skilled workmanship. She was very proud of the many ribbons she brought home for her cross stitch she spent tireless hours on. And never to forget her award-winning bread that graced the table of many bake sales. She often shared beautiful hand-made sweaters that were loved by family and friends. The grandchildren especially treasure their afghans that Grandma made for them once they graduated from high school.
Mom was born in the RM of Weldon, SK to Selma and Sigurd Gjesdal; she is the third of eight children. After graduating from high school, Mom went to teachers’ college, she was the English language “coach” for all of us!
In 1956 Mom married Fanuel Lima and together raised five children in the town of Weldon where they lived until 18 months ago when they moved to Carrot River. Mom was a loving wife and mother, she was our seamstress, our hairdresser, our chef, our gardener, our music teacher, our taxi driver. After we grew up, Mom worked at Woolco (Walmart) as a full time cashier until retirement.
In retirement she was an avid community volunteer and worked tirelessly putting together events for her beloved Silvertone Club. She also wrote the town news for the Melfort Journal where she could practice her perfect English.
Despite battling liver disease, Mom maintained a positive attitude, was happy to be alive, never complained about her illness feeling fortunate to have lived the great life she had.
Mom is survived by her husband Fanuel. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary one month ago. Mom was exceptionally proud of the legacy she leaves behind her five children: Bonnie (Mark) Fowler, Steven (Kathy) Lima, Owen Lima, Loren Lima, Karianne (Bob) Hanak as well as 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous grand cats & dogs. All were a big part of her life until the end.
