It is with great sadness we announce the death of Lurline Isoline Wright. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Daughter of Eulalee Rowe and Eric Wright. Survived by several siblings. Mother of Trune, Earl, Clive, Maureen and Raymond. Dearly loved by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout Canada, the United States and Jamaica.
Lurline came to Canada in 1971 and began work at the New Zealand Embassy as a housekeeper and cook. She went on to work at Garry J. Armstrong (formally known as Island Lodge), as cook for 30 + years. During her career, she returned to (school) Algonquin College of Arts and Technology and obtained her Certificate as a cook.
She was a very active volunteer in the Ottawa region since 1974 giving generously of her time and energy to her Community. While being a most active and dedicated member of the Jamaican (Ottawa) Community Association Inc., she held several positions and in 1992 received an award from the JOCA community. She also volunteered with her time with Shepherds of Good Hope, St. Margaret’s Anglican Church and the Unitarian Church, just to name a few.
In 2014, she was the proud recipient of the United Way East Ontario’s Community Builder Award, as a local volunteer and leader committed to making positive change in Ottawa.
