Lucy Miocich Thursday July 1st 2021

It is with great sadness that the family announces that Lucy Theresa Miocich died peacefully on Thursday July 1st, 2021 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, during rehabilitation from injury.
Lucy was born August 11, 1918 in Fort William, before the end of the Great War and the beginning of the H1N1 influenza pandemic. She grew up in the roaring twenties and Great Depression, coming of age at the dawn of World War II. With fierce determination she pursued her career as a nurse, culminating in a position as Acting Consultant in Public Health Nursing 1968-1970. One of her career achievements was overseeing Polio Vaccination clinics that saved so many children from devastating disabilities.
Lucy was the family fashionista; she loved to sew and knit for herself and her family, and shop the malls when visiting Toronto. Lucy was devoted to her parents and siblings, helping them run their family business, The McKennzie Inn in Shuniah and was a daily companion to her brother Jimmy in his final years at
St. Joseph’s Hospital. Lucy’s only nephew, Jim Paulin, was her joy and delight, and she was an adoring Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt to Jim’s family. Lucy was a fervent Catholic, encouraging her family to be faithful. A lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Parish, she served in many volunteer roles including President of her parish Catholic Women’s League, and a member of the Thunder Bay Public Health Department.
In August 2018, Lucy celebrated her 100th birthday with friends at her residence PR Cook apartments, from her parish St. Andrews, and friends from all over the Thunder Bay area. Known to many with endearment as “our little Energizer Bunny”, she seemed ready to take on another 100 years. Every summer, Lucy’s birthday has been a favourite time for fun family visits. We have had so many adventures together and we will keep celebrating Lucy’s birthday for years to come.
Lucy will be deeply missed by her family who live in Oakville, Ontario. She is survived by her niece Mary Paulin, her great-niece Kathy Paulin-Lougheed (Allan) and their children Flora and James. Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Miocich, her sisters Agnes Miocich and Irene Paulin, her brother Jim Miocich, and her nephew James Paulin.
The family is grateful for the efforts and care provided to Lucy by the caring staff of Personal Support Workers and counselors at PR Cook Apartments, TBRHSC emergency staff, 2B staff, and TCU staff at Hogarth Riverview. We thank you.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 6 ,2-4 pm, at Sargent & Son Funeral Home and the funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 8 2021 in St. Andrew’s RC Church. Those wishing to attend the service virtually may do so via the Sargent & Son Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Dew Drop Inn, or to the charity of your choice.
