Obituary
Lowry Gordon Toombs, the beloved husband of Donna Houston, passed away after a series of longterm illnesses on April 21, 2021, at the age of 70.
He was the third child of Gordon and Mary Toombs, he was born on July 12, 1950. As a child, he was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, Carrot River and Regina, Saskatchewan, Topeka, Kansas and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lowry was always driven to be the best at anything he touched and would excel at whatever he set his mind to. A jack of all trades, he went from selling lemonade and newspaper ads as a young boy to being a YMCA camp counsellor as a young man, partaking in activities such as backpacking and hunting, canoeing the Seal river, while also taking involvement in local theatre and community work. He lived in the Yukon for 25 years, it was like his own personal Disneyland, yet he always sought out new adventures. He eventually moved to the Crowsnest Pass in 2000, becoming one of the most well-respected realtors in southern Alberta.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna; his father Gordon Toombs in Winnipeg, MB; his siblings: Susan Wagner (Neil) of Hillcrest, AB and Daniel John of Boston, MA; his stepdaughter Doni-lyn Houston and her 3 children: Zach, Sydney, and Chase. He also survived by his children: Ethan (B.C.) and Morgan (Ontario); as well as other dear relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his mother, Mary Toombs. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the ICU, Dr. Wong, and the Nurses of the Renal Clinic at the Chinook Regional Hospital, and Dr. Kiared of the Fort Macleod Medical Centre, for all their care and compassion.
As per Lowry’s wishes, there will be no formal service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (6007 1A Street SW, Calgary, AB T2H 0G5) in memory of Lowry.
