Lois Davis Wednesday January 27th 2021

Davis, Lois Ellen (nee Greenwood)
Lois Ellen Davis, of Schomberg, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre on January 27, 2021 in her 90th year. Lois was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Mary (Shaw) Greenwood and her husband Richard Wendell Davis. She is survived by her son Andrew W. Davis (Norma), daughter Bonnie E. Rapus (Mark) and by the grandchildren she adored; Anastasia Davis, Courtney Davis (Tim), William Davis, Conner Rapus and Luke Rapus.
Lois was born on August 11, 1930 on the family farm in East Luther. She enjoyed a happy childhood there helping her mother and father on the farm. Lois was tenacious and had a talent for exceeding expectations. After high school she pursued a career in nursing. She proudly graduated as an RN from Sick Children’s Hospital in 1953. She worked in the operating room at Sick Kids Hospital for several years before moving to Orangeville where she worked at the Orangeville District Hospital until1988. She was a respected professional and trusted colleague to many. In 1955 Lois met Richard, the love of her life. Their marriage of 54 years began in 1956. Like so many of their generation, they started out with few material things. With love and dedication, they worked hard to build a wonderful life for themselves and their children.
First and foremost, Lois was a dedicated, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her quiet love nurtured the best parts of those who were blessed to know her. She was happiest when she was tanning by the pool, reading a good book, or spending time with her grandchildren. She was always there for her family and provided loving care for her parents and husband in their later years. She will be remembered for her subtle wisdom and sense of humor. Lois was always happy to babysit, host family get togethers, or share a meal with friends; her home will always be remembered as a place of light and laughter. Lois was active in St. Mark’s Anglican Church and enjoyed her time as a member of the the church of St. Mary Magdalene in Lloydtown.
After Richard’s passing Lois moved from Orangeville to Schomberg ON, with her beloved dog Katie, so that she would be close to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren in her twilight years. Having dedicated her life to her loved ones Lois always said that her family was her greatest source of happiness and pride.
Lois was always happiest at home. We would like to extend thanks and gratitude to health care providers Carmen, Sharon and the local CHAT’s organization whose hard work and dedication made it possible for Lois to remain in her home for as long as possible.
We would also like to thank Dr. Mauro and the entire staff on F wing at Headwaters Hospital for the exceptional holistic care and comfort they provided. She was in good hands then, and in God’s hands now.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A service for immediate family is planned.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date as COVID permits.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SickKids Foundation.
A tree will be planted in memory of Lois in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The next annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
