Our dear Mom, Lise, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, May 21,2021. She left this world with dignity and we are so very proud of a life well lived.
Mom was the only child of Emile Champagne and Stella Langelier whom she loved dearly. Mom lost our Dad, Charles, almost 20 years ago to diabetes. Her children, Joanne(Robert), Barbara (David) and Allen (Donna) will miss her so very much. Mom was extremely proud of the grandchildren, David (Emilia), Andrew (Allison), James(Michele), Emilie (Kristopher), Matthew, Ryan and Liam. Mom was always eager to spend time with them and her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Austin, Ethan,Justin and Nicholas. She doted over them, marveled at their accomplishments, and so enjoyed their company at our family gatherings. Mom held a special place for all children who came into her life and she never lost sight of them.
Mom was raised in Ottawa and grew up in Sandy Hill. Mom contracted the shadow of tuberculosis when she was 6 years old and for nearly a year she was patient at the Ottawa Sanatorium. Growing up she spent her holidays swimming in the ocean in the Gaspé, camping with her Mom and enjoying family holidays in Québec while her father served his country for a second time during World War 2. She was so immensely proud of him, as we all are.
Mom met Dad in her teens and they were married for over 50 years at the time of his passing. She trained at Saint Vincent’s in Ottawa where she met her lifelong friend, Jeannette. Mom spent most of her career at St. Patrick’s Home where she provided loving care and support to the patients and residents who often referred to Mom as the Angel of the Home. Over the years Mom would invite many of them to her home for afternoon tea.
Mom and Dad’s family home was their pride and joy. Mom and Dad would warmly and enthusiastically welcome the senior family members, cousins and friends for traditional Sunday and holiday dinners. Mom spent her last years at the Lord Lansdowne where she made many new friends. The professional care and compassion that mom received over the years were deeply appreciated by mom and the family. The additional support from Champlain LIHN and the Bruyère Geriatric Center were exemplary. A special thank you to all for their support over the years and, in particular to the nurses and personal support workers, Marife, Ruth, Yvonne, Jude, Richelle, Ivita and Ozren for always being there for Mom. Finally, we would like to thank Doctor Ruth Farey for her unwavering support during these difficult last few months.
In Mom’s memory, donations can be made to the Salvation Army. Due to Covid 19 restrictions a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. A private family mass will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. For those who wish to participate virtually, please visit Lise’s obituary page on the funeral home website to access the live stream link.
