Obituary of Linda Joy Fraser
Family and friends of Linda Joy Fraser of Stellarton are grieving her un- timely death early Thursday morning, September 29, three months short of her 67th birthday. Linda worked at the New Glasgow Aberdeen Hospital in the Diagnostic Imaging department for more than forty years.
Linda lived her entire life in Pictou County and Stellarton and attended Stellarton Public schools.
She is survived by her lifelong partner of over thirty years, Donnie MacIsaac and step daughter Amanda Gillis.
Growing up in the Fraser family on Stellar Street, Linda was unique among, eight children, having been blessed with unconditional love from three parents, Marvin, Louise and Marvena Fraser (Voss) also deceased. Linda was also preceded by her oldest brother John Dan of Merigomish, Esther Munroe (Stellarton), Sara Barnett (Tennessee) and Thelma Campbell (Moncton).
She is survived by sister Helen, Washington St New Glasgow and brother Whit of Ottawa. She enjoyed a special bond with her sister-in-law, Mary Simon, Canada’s new Governor General.
In her Voss family, she is survived by sister Alison of Peterborough,Ontario, brother Hans of Heidelberg Germany. Brother Marvin Voss also preceded her.
Linda Joy Fraser will be remembered by all who knew her for her quiet, generous and always friendly disposition and loyalty, including many thousands of Pictou residents who passed through the Diagnostic Imaging department at the Aberdeen hospital over the last forty years.
Linda loved nature and the outdoors, and beginning as a young girl with Dad Marvin, and later with Partner “Civer” she fished for trout, salmon, and sea bass in every hot spot in a fifty-mile radius of her hometown, usually out fishing both of them.
She died from cancer that in recent weeks, came on swift and with avengeance.
She entered the Palliative Care unit one week before her death. Given her long professional association with the Aberdeen and both the medical and service staff, it may be said that in a sense she also died at home, surrounded by an even larger loving and caring family.
Linda’s immediate family are comforted by the care and attention she received, in her final days from the medical staff despite being so overburdened by the strains of Covid 19.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday for family and close friends at the MacQuarrie Funeral Home in Stellarton, with her Ashes interred at Riverview Cemetery in Merigomish, followed by a small reception at the Merigomish Community center.
Donations in Linda ‘s name may be made the any humane society or the Pictou County SPCA.
