À la mémoire de
Leonard Chester Lockwood
An old-fashioned charmer who made everyone smile through until the end; Len passed peacefully in his sleep on July 29, 2021 in his 86th year. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara (nee McClure), his son Danny (Debbie) and daughter Lisa (Larry) and their families. Len will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his sister Noreen (Cliff) Coombs, brothers Don (Florence), Glen (Carol), Bruce (Margaret), Jimmy (Michelle). He was predeceased by his son in law Rick in 2001 and his brother Paul (Wendy) in 2007.
He worked 37 years with the City of Hamilton Streets and Sanitation Department (The Tree Gang). Since his retirement he served as a volunteer for 25 years at Macassa Lodge senior home. Len lived a life of joy and laughter and could often be found joining in with the band at many a family event, especially when his son Danny was on the drums. He loved to dance and sing including in several choirs throughout the years. He enjoyed playing Santa at Christmas and clowning around in general. His grandchildren fondly remember his clown-for-hire shtick from their childhood birthday parties and his infamous ability to recite the alphabet song backwards much to their delight.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s hospital for their compassionate care and his family physician, Dr Junaid.
In keeping with his wishes, Len was cremated and a private family service will be held.
