Leon Marcel SALZMAN 2021

SALZMAN: Leon Marcel, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Milverton in his 97th year on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
He was born at his farm home in St. Agatha on April 3, 1924 a son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Shantz) Salzman. He is once again reunited with his wife Dorothy Mabel (Dreher), and also with eldest daughter Susan Marie Salzman who we sadly lost just weeks ago.
Leon was a kind, caring, welcoming soul who always put others first. He tackled a challenge head-on with his ingenuity, he would advocate for what was right, and would always help in any way he could. All who knew him will feel an immeasurable loss. You can honour Leon by supporting someone in need physically, emotionally or financially. Giving the gift of time and love is what Leon has done his entire life.
A WWII veteran, and farmer for most of his life, they raised many animals including their beloved sheep while simultaneously being a highly respected full-time factory supervisor and milling press operator at Uniroyal in Kitchener (first as Dominion Rubber then later Beckers-Laytech) with Cost-of-Living being his contract legacy as Union VP.
He loved family most of all, hosting many reunions large and small. They were enthusiastically involved in their families lives attending their sports, recitals, concerts, plays, fashion shows, etc. Whatever the kids were interested in, they were too.
He embraced technology while still appreciating, upholding and passing on his old-time family traditions. Over the years he enjoyed building/fixing anything, wallpapering, growing vegetable and flower gardens, travelling with friends/family, trailer life at Miller Lake, golfing (began at age 70ish), playing cards & games, jigsaw puzzles, pool, and trying anything new – typed his memoirs on the computer at age 77 and hit Candy Crush level 2154!
Leon is survived by Dorothy’s siblings and their spouses Mildred Vezina, Harold Dreher (Mae), Roy Dreher, and Larry Dreher (Eva). Also survived by his children and their spouses Joe Salzman (Lynne) of Cambridge, Jim Salzman (Sandy) of Edmonton, Linda Vogt of St. Jacobs, Brenda Brissette (Rusty) of Conestogo, Bruce Salzman (Brenda) of Milverton, Barb Ortelli (Dave) of Milverton, Jen Salzman (Jeff Taylor) of Kitchener. He is survived by 11 Grandchildren: Jason Frey (Sheri), Chris Brissette (Andrea), Cindy Kopf (Mark), Robbi Vogt (Adrienne Randell), Jill Rolfe (Jesse), Amy Wilson (Andrew), Alison Snyder (Ben), Andrew Salzman, Evan Ortelli, Julia Salzman, Emily Dentinger (Ethan Pettapiece), Sean Taylor and their families of nearly 13 Greats and 5 Great-Greats. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and friends.
Leon is believed to be the last of his generation in the Andrew Salzman/Maria Schwartzentruber and Solomon Shantz/Mary Ann Hostetler lineages (his Grandparents). He is predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Gladys Ramseyer (William), three Salzman brothers married to three Knipfel sisters: Sanford Salzman (Dorothy), Florian Salzman (Hilda), Clifford Salzman (Gertrude), and Ruth Culham (William). Also by brother-in-laws John Dreher and Roland Vezina.
A private Memorial service has taken place. Interment in Shantz Mennonite Church Cemetery, together with daughter Susan will be at a later date.
