“Uncle Len” to 57 nieces and nephews and to over 100 great-nieces and nephews.
Len was born on July 29, 1948 in St. Agatha to the late Joe and Jeannette Henhoeffer. He grew up on a dairy farm just north of St. Agatha, where he fell in love with Gloria and they married in 1973 in St. Agatha. They had 3 children Steve, Laura, and Andie. The family moved to New Dundee in 1976 and Len worked at the New Dundee Creamery until it closed in 1998.
Len joined the New Dundee Fire Dept in 1976 and was there for 32 years. Serving as the District Chief from 1986 until 1999, when he stepped down and retired from the department in 2008.
Len was also a Boy Scout Leader, baseball coach and a member of the New Dundee Board of Trade while he lived in town. Len ended his working career as a Millwright at RIG until he retired in 2010.
In 2010 Len and Gloria moved to South River where they built a new home sitting on 23 acres. They were planning on spending a long retirement canoeing, fishing and enjoying life.
In 2012, Len was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. They stayed up north in the cottage until 2017. Len and Gloria moved back to the area to be close to family and friends while Len continued his Alzheimer’s journey. In 2019, he moved into Breithaupt House in Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre.
All through Len’s 9-year trip through the Alzeimer’s Maze, through the loss of his memory, his independence, his mobility, and speech, he always kept a happy, friendly disposition. For this we will be grateful.
We want to thank the wonderful staff at Breithaupt House in Columbia Forest. We feel blessed that your name matched with Len’s when he came to the top of the long list waiting for care. Bless you all.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 6-9 pm and Friday, July 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Parish Prayers will be held at 8:45 pm.
