Obituary of Lawrence MacDonald, River Ryan
It is with deepest sadness we say goodbye to a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Born in New Waterford on April 6, 1954, Lawrence passed away peacefully at home on March 30, 2021.
Lawrence is the son of the late Collie and Mary (Corbett) MacDonald, River Ryan.
He was a strong but quiet, kind, hard-working, dedicated man. He delivered fuel oil for 50 years and no day would be complete until he took care of all his customers. Lawrence loved travelling, animals, carpentry work, and as many people know, Lawrence loved the sport of boxing and enjoyed working out in his home boxing gym. His knowledge and passion for the sport kept him active, and he always loved to strike up conversation about up and coming fighters and those of the past.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara; son, David and his wife Christine; brothers, Johnny (Diane) and Raymond (Lorraine); sisters, Colleen and Anita (Derek); sister-in-law, Alydia (Irwin); brother-in-law, Carson (Diane) and all of his many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Mary and Bernie MacDonald, Sr. and brother-in-law, Bernie MacDonald, Jr.
A special thank you to Dr. Raed Azer, Dr. Laith Shimon, Brian MacLeod and Laura Lee Gillis of the Nova Scotia Health Authority and VON staff for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, where a private family funeral service will take place in the chapel. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at noon. All are welcome to attend. Social distancing and masks are required.
Memorials in memory of Lawrence may be made to the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick ALS Society or the SPCA. Words of comfort can be forwarded to: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.
Your hard working hands are now at rest and this proves
he only takes the best. Until we meet again.
