Obituary
Laverna was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved to bake and tell jokes and was a master at telling tall tales. She loved to laugh and visit with friends and family. She recently became a grandmother and was absolutely adored by her granddaughter, Kaija. Laverna attended school in Livelong and later moved on to graduate in Lebret. She then went on to live an adventurous life moving to Edmonton to further her aspirations, for she was on a mission to help other people. Laverna worked at two nursing homes caring for the elderly and then working at Thunderchild School for many years. The children loved her and cherished her kindness and consideration for their well-being. In the final months and days of her life, she worked at the Thunderchild Band Office as a receptionist where she again brought her happiness and great energy to the workplace.
In the end, Laverna died trying to save her brother, Raymond, who also perished. You could see the amazing human being she was; selfless, and so caring toward other people. She was just like that, putting others ahead of herself. Laverna was a very beautiful soul.
She is survived by: her loving parents, Douglas and Eliza Starr; her son, Christian Starr; her granddaughter, Kaija; her sisters, Bettyann Shankar, Verna Thunderchild, Loretta Starr (Ivan), and Jackie Starr; her brothers, Gilbert Thunderchild, Louis Horse, Justin Wapass, and Dave Armstrong (Andrea); her special cousin, Darin Bird; and numerous nieces and nephews, too many to mention.
Laverna was predeceased by: her grandparents, Philomine and Johnson Starr, and Emma and Pete Stoney; her special mosom, Arthur Star; her sisters, Donna and Carol; her brothers, Kenneth Stoney, and George Stoney; and numerous nephews and nieces.
