Lavaughn “Honey” Tanner, 95, of Lunenburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2021 at Harbourview Haven, Lunenburg.
Born in Stonehurst, she was a daughter of the late John and Olive (Tanner) Tanner.
Lavaughn, (‘Honey’ as she was known to everyone), and her late husband Eddie met in Stonehurst and were married in Lunenburg in January 1952. Eddie was a commercial fisherman nearly all his life, Honey a homemaker, and together they provided a safe, secure and loving home for their five children.
Second only to her family, Honey’s passion was gardening, her creative spirit demonstrated time and again on the property of our Lunenburg home. Some of our fondest memories include Mom tending her gardens, or enlisting family help to plant shrubs or cut sod to begin a new project. We can still recall her mowing the lawn, letting the machine down the terraces on a rope, as was the practice – a job the boys in the family inherited as soon as they could handle it!
Honey and Eddie loved their children and did their very best to provide for, teach, encourage and help them along the way. As Dad’s work took him to sea for weeks at a time, and before the age of constant contact, Honey often had to deal with the daily challenges of raising a family on her own. She managed this beautifully, leaving nothing to chance. Whether preparing meals, checking homework, making minor repairs or giving advice, she was always there when we needed her.
Honey and Eddie lived in their home ‘on the hill’ (Lunenburg) for 53 years – a place they loved from the day our family moved there in December 1958 until March of 2011, when they moved again to Harbourview Haven, just up the street.
Honey leaves to mourn her sister Delma, children Carol, Dan (Leila), Mike (Marita), Astrid (Jan-Olof), Peter (Karen), grandchildren Helene, Tasha, Tara, Mitchell, Joshua, Heidi, Joel, Olivia and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by Eddie, sister Rosetta and grandson Johnny.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a joint memorial service for Honey and Eddie will be held on Thursday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery, Blue Rocks.
Honey and Eddie’s family wish to thank the staff at Harbourview Haven and the medical personnel for the years of loving care they received. You became family to them.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
