It is with heavy hearts that we share with you that our Mom passed away peacefully at the James Bay Care Centre where she has resided since October, 2014.
Mom was pre-deceased by our Dad Austy in November 2014 and our brother Rick, her eldest son, in November, 2007. She is survived by her children: Sue Kilvington, Greg Craven, Scott Craven and Melanie MacCarthy. Grandchildren: Alex Craven, Carley Mallany, Lisa Craven, Jenelle MacCarthy and Clinton MacCarthy. Great-grandsons: Benjamin Mallany, Conor Grey and Harrison Craven.
She was #9 of 14 Webb siblings and grew up in Victoria. She was the last surviving member of her family: Parents Frank and Margaret Webb, brothers Charlie, Ben, Ray, Tom and Bill. Her sisters: Marguerite, Lucille, Mary, Mae, Rose, Freda, Theresa and Jean.
Mom went to St. Ann’s Academy in Victoria, attended Vic High and then worked at Victoria Machinery Depot as a bookkeeper. During the war years, she joined the Victoria Girls’ Drill Team and travelled around Canada and the U.S. performing with the team, along with her cousins Mavis and Velma Lawless. She and her fellow team members formed lasting friendships that endured over many years. She was particularly honoured to march in the 1945 Victory Day Parade on May 8, 1945.
She and Dad were married in October 1948 and over the years, we had many great family holidays at Parksville, Saratoga Beach and family get-togethers at their home. During their retirement, they took up golfing and they also travelled extensively throughout the world. Mom also took up quilting and painting and produced numerous wonderful pieces of artwork. She was a long-time member of Holy Cross Parish in Gordon Head and took comfort in her Catholic faith which endured throughout her life.
We feel extremely fortunate that we had Mom with us for 100+ years. We celebrated her milestone birthday on July 6th at the Care Home and she received citations from Queen Elizabeth, Premier John Horgan, The Honourable Janet Austin Lt. Governor of British Columbia. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as well as other local dignitaries.
We would like to thank the staff at James Bay Care Centre for their kind and wonderful care of Mom during her time there and the compassionate, loving care they gave during her final days.
We love you Mom and we will all miss you forever. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date when Covid restrictions are lifted.
