Laszlo was born in Hungary on Aug 16, 1931 in the middle of the Great Depression.
Laszlo is survived by his 3 sons, Les, Peter, Zsolt, and daughters-in-law Dianne Cseh and Jennifer Cooke and of course Karen Willison. He is now with his loving wife Lili in heaven where she has been anxiously awaiting him since 2018.
Laszlo had an incredibly full and not what anyone could call a “normal” life.
Raised during extremely difficulty times under Russian suppression, he managed to keep his humour and adventurous nature. Then one night during the uprising against Russia, both Laszlo and Lili were moved by God to escape Hungary and only with his assistance did they manage to avoid the patrols and get to the border. Then another miracle, the border guard waved them through. This was almost unheard of.
After a terrible stormy ocean crossing, they ended up in Canada. They worked the tobacco fields, started a deli in downtown Toronto and then Laszlo got a job as a computer operator on the first computer in Canada at the U of T and then became a programmer. Programming is what he did until he retired.
We are still confused how this carpenter from Hungary got into computers, but that was Dad.
When he wasn’t programming, he was teaching Sunday school with his wife, Lili, and was an elder at the two Hungarian churches they participated in, helping those in need (especially immigrants), always smiling and joking and being loving and spreading the word of Jesus to those who would listen. He lived his belief by example, showing love to all.
He was inseparable from his wife of over 50 years. At the end, when we took him to see her after she had passed, he said « Look at how beautiful she still is. »
Laszlo Cseh passed away at 4:00 a.m. on June 1, 2021. His last days were spent in Arbor Heights in Kingston under the care of his son, Les. Every PSW, personal caregiver, nurse and doctor shared what an endlessly smiling man he was who never complained, ate enough for three and was the most handsome man in the place. They are all going to miss him, and he said that he was the best patient ever. That everyone was saying this was incredibly moving.
We also must mention the caregivers, Lena, Andrea, Mary-Jean, Joy and Marie. These ladies were true angels. Dad loved them so much and they loved him back.
And a huge thanks to everyone at Arbor Heights.
Thanks to all for looking after Laszlo. You have all gone above and beyond.
You will be greatly missed, Laszlo. Thanks for setting a beautiful example of love.
Say hi to Mom.
