Larry J.’s Obituary
“Larry” Lawrence John Turner May 21, 1954 – March 27, 2021
Larry was born in Manning, Alberta on May 21, 1954, to Margie and Harry Turner.
He was a fussy baby and cried all day and all night. After two week of walking the floor with him day and night, an exhausted Margie took Larry into the doctor. She found out he had a milk allergy and was prescribed opium to give him with every feeding for the next year. She cried every time she had to give it to him. In those days there were no milk substitutes like now.
He grew into a very busy boy, always exploring and building something. He loved going down to the Notikewin River to catch fresh water clams with Bob. They often had a tub, in the shade beside the house, with lots of clams in it.
In 1963 the family moved to the farm in Worsley. Larry really liked the farm and country living. He had a great love for the outdoors and everything wild. He would often go hiking along the Eureka River and through the trees. He enjoyed running the farm machinery and helping to keep things running. He worked in Hay River for several summers while he was a teenager. After high school Larry attended Fairview College and graduated as a Motor Mechanic. He worked for his brother Bob, Goodzeck Construction, Ike Peters Water Hauling, Jim Moffat Construction and drove cat in the coal mines at Grande Cache.
Larry learned how to build log houses and built himself a house and built many log shelters and buildings for campgrounds in the area. He was a fantastic gardener and took great pride in all the vegetables he grew. He always tried to grow something new every year. Larry really enjoyed fishing and often had Kelly tag along for the fun. He also liked being involved with Vince’s farming operation with restored International Harvester equipment. It always brought a big smile to his face when he hopped on to a piece of machinery.
Larry loved his nieces and nephews and was always interested in what they were doing. He really enjoyed the visits from them and usually had a job for them to do while they were there. He was so proud of all of them.
Larry never minced words he always told it like it was. If he liked what you were doing you knew it, you also knew it if he didn’t.
No matter what his circumstances were he always said he was happy.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Margie and Harry Turner and his sister Karen.
Larry is survived by his daughter Lori (Ken), grandchildren Kyle, Connor and Anna, brother Bob, nephew Vince(Nikki) Brooke and Cori, nephew Kelly, niece Vicky(Johnny), sister Glenna(Bryan), niece Robbie(Jason) Taylor, Ammon and Daniel, nephew Michael, nephew Jonathan, niece Stacey(Nick), nephew Patrick(Darryl) Jakem.
