Obituary
“Kerry” Clifford Lee James Kerrison
August 2, 1948-December 20th, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kerry Kerrison on December 20th,
2021, at the age of 73.
Kerry will be dearly missed by his wife Ricky; daughter Corina (Gordon Lynch), sons Patrick
(Diana) and Ryan. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren; Elliot, Devon, Patrick
Mikaela, Rowan and Aidan. As well his cousins Dee Dee and Michael Johns, who will also
deeply miss Kerry. Kerry leaves behind many extended family members and friends from both
his years in the Oil Patch and those of which he touched throughout his community. Kerry is
predeceased by both his parents, Clifford Reginald Wright Kerrison and Rose Marie Kerrison.
Kerry was born at the Royal Alexander hospital in Edmonton Alberta on August 2,1948 to
Clifford and Rose-Marie “Bunty’ Kerrison. Kerry was officially named Clifford after his father,
however being born very early the nurses nicknamed him “baby Kerry” and the name stuck from
then on. After an initial year in Edmonton, Kerry along with his mother and father moved to
Terrace BC, where they lived for 4 years before returning to Devon Alberta in 1953. Kerry being
an only child was blessed with the kinship of his Aunty Mary, Uncle Dan and many cousins,
Michael, Dee Dee, Sharon, Danny, Rosemary and Jim, truly a second family for Kerry as he
grew up in Devon.
Kerry spent the rest of his childhood days in Devon, where he shared many great adventures
with his cousins and grew up in a happy home. A home filled with laughter, much love, music,
singing and dancing – with his Dad on the piano and Kerry playing the saxophone throughout
his teen years. Kerry attended Devon High School and joined the Patricia Infantry Edmonton
Division Militia at the age of 15 and went on to join their NATO training exercises in Germany in
1966 after graduation. Kerry met his high school sweetheart during this time and he and Ricky
were married in August of 1970.
Kerry and Ricky moved to Calgary to pursue a business venture in 1971 – Kerrison Dispatch and
Express, a messenger service to get important documents around town during the boom years.
Kerry moved on after selling his business a few years later to pursue his interests in the oil
industry where he became a gas well tester. Kerry went on to form his own service company,
Kerwest Production Testing Ltd. an oilfield service company known for their industry innovations
and excellence. He and Ricky worked and grew KerWest together for over 3 decades.
Kerry and Ricky’s family grew with the arrival of Corina Marie in 1972, then a short two years
later Patrick arrived. Almost a decade after, the family welcomed home a third addition to the
Kerrison clan, a son named Ryan. With their growing family Kerry and Ricky purchased an
acreage south of the city in the foothills division (Dewinton/Okotoks area) and raised the
children amongst a small community where the family enjoyed the wide open space and the
many adventures that came with acreage living.
Kerry was a member of the Petroleum Services of Canada for over 40 years and continued to
innovate and share his expertise throughout his testing career. In his later years, Kerry worked
in collaboration with the Trinidad government and Paramount Energy to investigate the
production viability of several gas wells on the island. As Kerry continued his time in the oil and
gas industry, he also focused attention on his love of golfing and his grandchildren. Kerry almost
never missed a men’s night as a member of the Carnmoney Golf Club and took many an
opportunity to golf around Alberta and BC with his golfing foursome including good friends Steve
Price, Charles Martin and Doug Critchly as well as Marv Jones.
Kerry shared much of his time with his grandchildren Elliot and Devon, working on projects,
teaching tractor skills, mechanics and woodworking. He continued to share in the lives of all his
grandchildren and passed on many great skills and lessons of life along the way, among those
his generosity, ready smile, welcoming manner and humor.
