Ken (Der Yuk Kin) was born around August 25, 1929 in Guangdong province China and passed away peacefully on October 20, 2021 in Trail, BC.
Ken is survived by wife Maria, sisters Jean and Pat, sons; Stan, Wei, Charlie, and Raymond, grandchildren; Bryan, Kyla, Lani, Eden, Shelby, Myles, Kevin and Kailey, great-grandchildren; Hunter, Everly, Jax, Joel, James, Rhys and Sawyer.
Ken lived a long and adventurous life, first immigrating to Canada around 1956 and settling in Nelson working with my Grandfather Joe Hingwing at Liberty Foods. In the early 60’s our family opened the Purple Lantern Restaurant in Nelson where many enjoyed his Chinese food cooking skills. Over the years Ken had many other restaurant businesses, the last being Double Happiness in Trail. I’m sure many have experienced his generosity and humour for which you all have a story to tell.
Ken’s ashes will be inurned at the Columbarium of the Fruitvale Cemetery. Whenever you’re in the area, drop in and say Hi to him.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Ken Der Hingwing October 20th 2021..
