Obituary of Kay Allen
After celebrating her 100th birthday in March, we regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Kathleen (Kay) Charlotte (Burrell) Allen on April 11, 2021. She passed of natural causes at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, in St. John, NB, and, while adhering to Covid restrictions, was able to have her granddaughter and great granddaughter with her at the end of her life.
Kay was born to Thomas Charles and Grace Myrtle (Greenizen) Burrell in Shell River District near Roblin MB on March 17, 1921. She was a Canadian Airforce veteran, who served her country overseas (in NL), where she met her husband of more than 60 years. In 1961 Mary Munroe and Leona Bell brought the gospel to the district where they lived, at which time she made a choice to begin her spiritual journey with God and continued faithfully to the end.
Kay is survived by one son, Douglas B Allen and wife Mary (Brown) of Sus, NB; grandchildren Mary Jayne (Ross)McNary of Saskatoon, SK; Donna (Kevin) Kennedy of Edmonton, AB; Gennyne (Ron) Sharpe of Sus, NB; and Hod Allen of Delta, BC. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Casey (Robbie) Dumeresq; Jeffrey (Ashleigh) McNary; Katie McNary and her fiancé Jeremy Schneider; Jalise (Matthew) Benson; Travis (Hanna) Sharpe; Mark McNary; Mikelle (Dennis) Williston; Marcia (Izaak) Wilson; and great-great-grandchildren Della, Hazel, Jemma, Esme, Evelyn, Braxzen and Laughlin.
She is predeceased by her husband, John B. Allen, her parents, and all her siblings: Gladys Maguire; Alice Murray; Margaret Johnson; Ethel Radford; Phyllis Framingham; Clara Burrell; Ruth Radford; Charles Burrell; Herbert Burrell; Shirley Burrell and Joyce Lenderbeck. She was #10 of 12 siblings and until her death was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
We would like to acknowledge the outstanding care and compassion shown by the staff at Ridgewood Veterans Wing during the last few years of Kay’s life. A special thank you for nurses Carrie and Detria who had an extra close bond with her, and who made her final days as comfortable as possible for both her and her family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00pm. A celebration of Kay’s life will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 2:00pm from Wallace Community Chapel. Due to Covid-19 the service will be held by invitation only.
