Obituary
Katharina “Kay” Monica Reno-Strath June 2nd, 1925 – November 23rd, 2021
Kay went to be with Jesus her Shepherd after 96 beautiful years. Kay was born in Leader Saskatchewan to parents Karl & Philippina Bigler.
She worked hard her entire life. She started at the age of 14 housekeeping for families, then later worked in a café where she met the love of her life Joel Reno.
They married on March 23, 1944, then went to live on a small farm in the Roe district of Abbey Saskatchewan. Their Daughter Sharon was born in 1944, their second daughter Gail was born in 1949. Kay prepared meals for hired hands when Joel worked for a farmer in Leader. This made her an excellent cook and baker. Her family called her buns “magic buns” because they always disappeared.
Kay then worked for clothing stores in Leader. However, many would remember her most fondly by her smiling face and helpful demeanor at the Pharmacy in leader, a job she enjoyed until she retired. This is where she was trained in the use of beauty products, which she used faithfully every day. This gave her a wealth of information regarding beauty secrets. She could often be found combing her hair or tweezing her facial hairs (without a mirror!)
Here are some of the beauty tips she loved to share: Oil of Olay is what you use to make your skin look young and beautiful, a fresh application of lipstick will freshen up your whole look. Get your hair done often, if you can get your hair colored you should do that too – no sense in letting it go gray! Before bed, make sure you wash your face, under your arms, and even your feet.
Faith advice: Read your bible, say your prayers all day, every day but especially before bed. She also wrote beautiful poetry and recited all sorts of poems she wrote along with other authors. The past few years, she lived in Brooks Alberta where her family could spend precious time together with her.
She is predeceased by her parents, stepmother Eva Bigler, 2 brothers, 5 sisters, her husband Joel Reno, 2nd husband Donald Strath, daughter Sharon Anderson & son-in-law Andy Anderson.
She is survived by her Daughter Gail Kurtz and her husband Jim, Sister Merlene Nagel, Son-in-Law Gordon Burdick, Grandchildren: Mike & Tracy Anderson, Tanya Anderson, Mark & Crystal Kurtz, Corey Kurtz. Great Grandchildren: Kris Harron (Jocelyn), Kyle Harron, Kalista Spence, Austin Kurtz, Tanner Kurtz & Colten Anderson. She is also survived by many special nieces & nephews.
We will miss our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. We are so blessed to have had so many years with this amazing faith-filled lady – she was such a beautiful soul.
