Karl’s Obituary
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Karl Baxter Wall on November 30th, 2021, at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche, at the age of 89. One of 13 children, Karl was born August 7th, 1932, in Tatamagouche Mountain to the late Walter and Lillian (Shearer) Wall. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Flora (Joudrie), brothers Ronald, Doug, Guy, Alvin and Sterling, and his sister Katherine McGowan. A well-known member of the community, Karl will be remembered by those from every generation in every corner of the province. Early in his life, he worked in forestry and road construction but pursued his passion for horse farriering in 1972 at the age of 40. This job took him across the province, meeting people from all walks of life. He continued road construction until his retirement, but his love for horses kept him busy shoeing horses well into his 80s. These experiences made him known for his story-telling abilities and the humour he found in every situation; his laugh will never be forgotten. He loved going for long drives with Ivan, filling his growler at Tata Brew, and spoiling his grandchildren even as their parents gave him “the look”. He always had a stash of candy that no one could find, and he loved to bring it out to make everyone smile as he shared. He had a green thumb and loved saving all the plants his family nearly killed. He could turn scraps into things such as wooden sleighs and wheelbarrows, as he saw the potential in everything. A heartfelt thank you from Karl’s family to the VON and the fantastic nurses at Lillian Fraser, especially to Danielle Mattatall. Words cannot convey how grateful we all are to you for the incredible kindness and care you have shown to Karl and us during this last month. Thank you for all that you do. Karl is survived by his daughters Janet Wall and Melissa (Robin) Underwood of Tatamagouche and his son Blake (Tammie) Wall of Truro, his grandchildren, Alexandra (Cedric Denis) Underwood of Saskatoon, Delani Underwood of Tatamagouche, Emmitt and Keean Wall of Truro, and great-granddaughter Nora Denis of Saskatoon, as well as his brothers Ross (Anne) of Hilden, Murray of Tatamagouche, John (Meredith) of Tatamagouche, George (Brenda) of Tofield, Alberta and Robert (Jackie) of Wallace, sister, Muriel (Henry) Roberts of Tatamagouche, and several nieces and nephews. A family graveside service will be held at Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery. Donations can be made to Lillian Fraser Hospital and Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery.
