Karl’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Karl Alexander Reid announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL at the age of 79 years. Born in St John’s, NL, Karl was the son of the late William and Kathleen Reid (nee Stone).
He was also predeceased by his wife; Julia Reid (nee Doucette) in 2011, sisters; Carmel (Barry) Sweeney, Joan (Alex) Street and Barbara Harlick, father and mother-in-law; John and Margaret Doucette (nee Leroux), brothers-in-law; Paul Doucette, Roger Gale, Stan Farrell, Alex Street and Barry Sweeney, sister-in-law; Regina Farrell and several nephews.
He leaves behind with many fond and special memories his loving daughters; Paula Reid (Paul) of Halifax, NS, Karla (Curt) Pierre of Trinidad, West Indies, his only son Don (Jennifer) of Yellowknife, NT. A loving grandfather to Devyn, Paul, Julia, and Joshua and in recent years to his step grandchildren Jamille and Khadeisha.
He will also be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law; Joe (Ann) Doucette of Tompkins, NL, sisters-in-law; Bernice (Joe) Bennett of Centreville, NS, Patricia Gale of Doyles, NL, Mary (Cyril) Dwyer of Cobourg, ON, Kay Doucette (Jerry) of Joplin, Missouri, Angela (Edward) LeRiche of Orangeville, ON, and Ann Marie (Rob) Foley of Centreville, NS. He will also remain in the hearts of his home support worker, Rhonda, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Throughout his life Karl was a jack of all trades. He worked as a meat cutter for a period of time and was very skilled in carpentry, but eventually became a self-employed plasterer and painter and worked tirelessly until retiring in 2010. He was an was actively involved in his community as a past Lions Club President, cherished his family and will forever remain in our hearts.
Visitation taking place on Sunday, November 21st, from 5-8 p.m. at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, November 22nd, at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Andrew White. To honor Karl’s wishes cremation will follow. Interment will take place at Mount St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Due to the latest Government regulations your Newfoundland VaxPass, photo ID and masks are required for entry to the visitation and church service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karl’s memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
