It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. Karen passed away in her Fort Saskatchewan home with her husband and family by her side on January 16, 2021 at the age of 57 years old. She fought a courageous battle against ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Karen will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, caring, intelligent, quiet, happy person who was very devoted to her family.
She will be forever remembered by her husband Marcel of 39 years, children Josh (Glenna), Brittany (Chris), and Zachary. Her grandchildren Kennedy, Addison, Cody, and Henry. Her mother, Theresa Davis, siblings Cindy (Glenn), Jody (Matthew), Tim (Linda) and Daryl. Her brother and sister-in-laws Lynn (Don), Annette (Colin), and Teresa (Roger). As well as numerous nieces, nephews, a large clan of cousins and relatives and friends. Karen was predeceased by her Dad, Ray, her sister Debbie, and grandparents Joseph and Mary Kish. Long time friends Marvin and Delores also cherish the memory of her.
Karen was born in Camrose and as a child she enjoyed reading, riding bicycles, basketball, and excelled in school. She lived in Clive, Bashaw, Stettler, and Killam where she met her husband. Karen and Marcel married in Killam on August 15, 1981, and soon after moved to Bruderheim to join Marcel’s family grocery store (Bigway Foods). In 2003, they moved on from the grocery store and Karen went to work part time at the bank (ATB Financial). She also helped Marcel in their new venture at the time, the Spirit of Bruderheim liquor store. In 2008, they moved to Wainwright where she continued on with ATB. In 2017, they moved to Fort Saskatchewan to be closer to their grandchildren and the airport.
Karen enjoyed curling, reading, playing cards and event planning. She could also be found watching sports (hockey and curling with Marcel), watching her children play sports, and spending time with her family. Karen loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and Las Vegas, and spent her last trip with their long time friends, Marvin and Delores in Mazatlan.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to each of the homecare nurses, the support from Dr. Gilbert, the staff at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, the Kaye Clinic and the ALS Society for their support. A special thank you to Nelsa, her primary caregiver and friend, who cared for Karen in her home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Alberta in Karen’s name. 11808 St Albert Trl NW, Edmonton AB T5L 4G4
