Julia’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Julia Dollina Short (nee Osmond) at the Western Memorial, Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, September 26th, 2021 at the age of 77 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, Julia was the daughter of the late Cyril and Violet Osmond. She was also predeceased by her father and mother-in-law; Thomas (Maude) Short, mother-in-law; Blanche Kettle, sisters; Anne (Russell) Kettle, Margaret (Israel) Osmond, Catherine (Kitty) Pearce, Pearl Osmond, baby brother; Jack Osmond, brothers; Gordon Osmond, Levi Osmond, brothers-in-law; Isaac Short, John Murphy, Larry Kempton, William MacNeil and sister-in-law; Joan Osmond.
Leaving to mourn with many with fond and precious memories her loving husband of 41 years; Norm Short, children; Chris Short (Shelly Rodgers), Vianne (Dan) Hurley, Roslyn (Garry) Kettle, Shawn Osmond (Michelle Best), Dwayne Osmond (Peggy Appleman), grandchildren; Desiree Osmond, Cody Short, Gary Kettle, Liam Hurley and Addisen Hurley.
Julia will also remain in the hearts of her brother; Joe (Rose) Osmond of British Columbia, brothers-in-law; Lew Short (Lynn), Nelson Kettle, sisters-in-law; Joyce (Matthew) Young, Ernest (Doreen) Dowding, Joan (Bert) LeRiche, Shirley (Charlie) Pynn, Norma Murphy, Julie Kempton, Maisie (George) Osmond, Viola (Jordan) Elms, Elsie McNeil, Margaret Gaulton (Stuart Kettle), Sheila Stride, and Rena Short, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Julia loved her family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, she absolutely adored them. Julia loved listening to Newfoundland music and she was a wonderful dancer. She also loved to see company come through the door. She had a beautiful bright smile as well as a twinkle in her eyes, and a smart remark for everyone. She loved to laugh. Julia operated the cafeteria at the St. James Regional High school for 19 years. All the students greatly adored her and she loved them all. She will remain in the hearts of all that knew her forever.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Brazil, Dr. Lafferty, and the nursing staff on 3B and the palliative care unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. In keeping with Julia’s wishes, cremation will follow. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 30th at 2 p.m. from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Grand Bay-Port aux Basques officiated by Rev. Faye Coffin. Interment to follow at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, NL. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in memory of Julia can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
