Obituary of Joy Lister
Joy Lister (nee Gilmaster) passed away peacefully on January 15 at Providence Care, Kingston after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her parents (Orm and Martha Gilmaster) and her brother Bob Gilmaster. She will be missed by Clyde, her husband of 60 years, daughters Suzy (Jackie; Allison Spiller (2015)) and Andrea (Paul), and grandson Owen.
Joy was born in Montreal and grew up in Toronto. She graduated from University of Toronto’s P&OT program in 1958, and practiced physiotherapy for many years. Her real love was art and design. Over the years she painted and collaged, participating in local art shows. Joy was known for her avant garde taste, ahead of her time in colour schemes and furniture, but with a feeling of deep comfort and welcome. True to her name, she was joyful and humorous, and everyone who knew her enjoyed spending time with her.
The family wishes to thank the beautiful care over the years from Kathy, Krysten, Bonnie, Natasha, Kayla, Sherry, and Caroline. We are also grateful for the compassionate care from Dr. Gill and the team at Providence Care.
In lieu of flowers, we invite donations to UHKF, the Allison E Spiller Endowment Fund (Queens University Foundation), War Amps, or a charity of your choice. The family will hold a private gathering later.
