Obituary of Joseph Cassar
CASSAR- Joseph on September 15, 2021, at 92 years of age, Joseph Cassar passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Welland Hospital. Joe was born in Valletta, Malta, and established himself in Port Colborne in 1948, where he worked at INCO for 41 years. Joe was a member of the St. Therese of Lisieux parish where he married his wife, Melita Cassar, 65 years ago on September 15, 1956. Nannu, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, loved attending their hockey, baseball and soccer games, and was always the most proud to hear about their accomplishments.
Joe is survived by his wife, Melita Cassar, and his three daughters; Josephine (Stephen) Embree, Carmen (Thomas) Lannan, and Barbara (Christopher) Brown; by his 6 cherished grandchildren Ryan (Lindsay) Lannan, Eric (Taylor) Embree, Matthew (Michelle) Lannan, Gregory (Katherine) Embree, Sarah Embree and Megan Brown; and by his 5 dear great grandchildren Samuel & Jacob Lannan, Elliot & Colin Embree, and Lochlan Lannan. He is also survived by his sisters Louise (Art) Sullivan and Jane Cassar, as well as several nieces and nephews in Canada, USA, and Malta.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Paul and Carmella Cassar, his brothers Victor and Anthony, and his sisters Mary Ciantar, Teresa Catania, Vivian Ryan, and his precious granddaughter Emily Brown.
A private funeral was held on Monday September 20, 2021. In memory of Joe, as per his wishes, donations can be made to St. Therese of Lisieux parish in Port Colborne and the Port Colborne Minor Hockey Association.
